YMCA Walsall Talent Match Hub is situated just outside of Walsall Town centre and is based in the Small Street Centre in Caldmore, a thriving centre where young adults who attend the Hub can benefit from a variety of support and additional facilities that are on offer such as Crèche provision, ICT Suite, Health and Wellbeing Services, Food Bank, Developing Enterprise Café, Counselling Support Services, Volunteering Opportunities and disability support services.

Our Hub has celebrated many successes and seen so many of our young adults access the support on offer. We have helped mentees move out from homelessness into supported housing, we have networked with local colleges and training Providers to source suitable skills and training, providing personal development as well as providing financial support to access the training.

Over the last few months we have developed activities to support mentees to develop their social skills through group days out, including go karting, laser quest and meals out as well as encouraging them to participate in a re-decorating day at the Hub. These activities have enabled the mentee’s to improve their confidence, self-esteem and build new friendships in a relaxed and informal setting. We pride ourselves on the fact that our mentees are involved in how the Hub should look and what provision should take place at the Hub. As well as our Hub in Caldmore we are also engaging with partners across Walsall to support mentees at locations that suit them, providing one to one support, outreach activities and a safe place to simply be.

The Hub is working closely with YMCA to create a Social Enterprise Café where mentees can gain a Level 2 qualification in food hygiene and learn about running a business. The Café has been running for a few months and is proving a great success. Mentees who have an interest in learning more about the catering trade have this exciting opportunity at our Hub to learn in a practical way how to develop their skills in this area.

Our Hub addresses the needs of mentees and each person is treated as an individual. By offering 1-1 support we can work through issues and find solutions together. Our drive is to support mentees make a Real Change that will support them not just for the short term but for the rest of their lives. The Hub provides a friendly and relaxed setting where young adults can come, play games in a safe, chilled out and fun atmosphere.
